Introduction of Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine
The department of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was founded in 1970. They currently have 41 staff members and have 46 patient-beds in total.
The use of traditional Medicine in combination with western medicine is called Integrative Medicine. Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center has been approved as a unique Cancer Center of integrative medicine in China by the CAIM (China Association of Integrative Medicine) in August 2006. In 2007, this department was rewarded as “National Demonstrative Unit of TCM in comprehensive & special hospital” by the State Administration of TCM and the Ministry of Health .
The department of TCM has an integrative approach of medicine which combines Western medicine and Chinese medicine. It can be used to treat different kind of cancers, such as, lung cancer, breast cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, lymphoma and NPC. It also helps to relieve the patients from the pain caused by cancer. TCM is used in active combination with radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery or Biotherapy. This department has successfully developed some recipes such as "Bi Yan Qing Du Ji ", "Sheng Xue Tiao Yuan Tang", "San Xue Zhi Tong Gao", which were made from national essentials.
