Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

The Department of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma is one of the key clinical departments of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center. The current chief is Professor Guo Xiang, and there are 18 doctors and 54 nurses, including 13 senior specialists, with 3 Doctor Supervisors and 7 Master Supervisors. There are 16 people to go abroad for further study successively.

Currently, there are 167 beds in our department, along with two naso-endoscopy rooms and one hearing test room. Our staffs work on the early diagnosis of NPC, the comprehensive treatment of NPC, such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery. The multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma has a leading position both in China and abroad, especially in the research of early diagnosis and treatment of NPC, the comprehensive and stratified treatment of NPC, the surgical and minimally invasive endoscopic treatment of recurrent and residual after radiotherapy.

 

We have conducted many researches in the field of epidemiological survey of NPC, large-scale prospective randomized controlled clinical trials, multiple indicator prognosis, diagnosis and treatment of radioactive nerve injury, and so on. We also have undertaken many National research projects successively. Besides, we have host four General Program projects and one Key project of National Natural Science Foundation. The strategy of early diagnosis and the '92 NPC staging and tiered comprehensive treatment program which we put forward have been widely used in China. In the past several years, our department is awarded with The Second Prize of National Science and Technology Development, The First Prize of Science and Technology Development from Guangdong province, The Second Prize of Science and Technology Development from National Education Committee, and The Second Prize of Science and Technology Development from the Health Ministry, and so on. The experts in this department have published a series of books, including Screening scheme of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, the Standard of Diagnosis and Treatment of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, New Edition on the Standard of Diagnosis and Treatment of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, the new Guidelines of Diagnosis and Treatment of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, the research of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma.
