Delegation of Karolinska Institute Visits Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center

On January 10, 2025, a distinguished delegation from the Karolinska Institute visited Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC) to deepen collaboration and explore opportunities for future research and clinical advancements. The delegation, led by Prof. Olle Kampe, Vice Chair of the Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine, was warmly received by Prof. Ruihua Xu, President of SYSUCC, and a team of experts from various departments, including Medical Oncology, Experimental Research, Radiation Oncology, Colorectal Surgery,  Liver Surgery, Pancreaticobiliary Surgery, Biotherapy Center and Office of Scientific Research and Education at SYSUCC.

The Karolinska Institute delegation also included Prof. Luni Chen, along with Prof. Zheng Zhang from Peking University First Hospital, and Prof. Xuetong Shen, Vice President of Shenzhen Bay Laboratory, further enriching the discussion with their expertise.



Prof. Ruihua Xu expressed his gratitude for the longstanding collaboration between SYSUCC and the Karolinska Institute, which began in 2004 with the establishment of the Sino-Swedish Joint Laboratory. He emphasized the importance of continuing and expanding this partnership to drive scientific innovation and improve cancer care globally. In turn, Prof. Olle Kampe extended his sincere thanks for the warm reception and the comprehensive arrangements made by SYSUCC. 

During the visit, Prof. Feng Wang, Assistant President and Director of the Department of Medical Oncology, provided an insightful introduction to SYSUCC, highlighting its clinical practices, research initiatives, educational programs, and robust international collaboration network. Prof. Wang emphasized the center’s commitment to advancing cancer care and its ongoing efforts to build strong global partnerships. Prof. Olle Kampe also shared his interest in SYSUCC’s clinical trials in anti-cancer drug development and suggested that SYSUCC is well-positioned to achieve breakthrough results in this field.

Following the meeting, the delegation toured SYSUCC’s Department of Medical Oncology, Radiation Therapy Center, and surgery departments, witnessing firsthand the center’s cutting-edge facilities and the dedicated work of its medical professionals.


This visit marks another important step in the ongoing collaboration between SYSUCC and the Karolinska Institute, further strengthening the ties between the two institutions and paving the way for more impactful research and clinical advancements in cancer care.
