From December 7 to 8, the inaugural meeting of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) Nasopharyngeal Cancer Expert Committee and The 3rd International Head and Neck Cancer Symposium were successfully held in Guangzhou. The meeting was sponsored by the CSCO Nasopharyngeal Cancer Expert Committee, Guangdong Anti-Cancer Association, and Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC).
On the morning of December 7, the inaugural meeting of the CSCO Nasopharyngeal Cancer Expert Committee was held in the International Conference Hall of SYSUCC. The meeting was chaired by Liu Ling, Director of the CSCO office and CSCO director, and Professor Liang Jun Vice chairman of CSCO and the vice president of Peking University International Hospital, who delivered speeches. Professor Liang Jun introduced the history and development of CSCO and pointed out that one of CSCO's concepts is to provide a platform for communication and cooperation for oncologists in China. It is hoped that the establishment of the CSCO Nasopharyngeal Cancer Expert Committee can help the country in the development of nasopharyngeal cancer diagnosis and treatment.
At the meeting, Professor Ma vice-president of SYSUCC was elected as chairman. The chairman of the committee was Professor Yi Junlin of the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The vice chairman was Professor Chen Chuanben of Fujian Cancer Hospital and the Zhejiang Cancer Institute. Professor Chen Xiaozhong, Professor Hu Chaosu of the Tumor Hospital Affiliated of Fudan University, Professor Lang Jinyi of Sichuan Cancer Hospital, Professor Shen Liangfang of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Professor Sun Ying of SYSUCC, Professor Yang Kunyu of the Union Hospital Affiliated to Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Professor Zhu Xiaodong of the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Guangxi Medical University. A total of 21 professors including Professor Mai Haiqiang of SYSUCC were elected as standing members.

Well-known experts at home and abroad gathered for the 3rd International Head and Neck meeting
Professor Xu Ruihua of SYSUCC was the honorary chairman along with Professor Ma Jun and of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Anthony TC Chan, of the Hong Kong Cancer Institue Professor Wang Lvhua, the associate vice president of the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Professor Lang Jinyi of the Sichuan Cancer Hospital were also co-chairs.
The conference invited well-known experts in the field of head and neck cancer from the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Singapore and China, including the key investigator of the Keynote048 trial, Professor Babara Burtness of Yale University. Others included Professor Andreas Dietz, member of the Board of Directors of the European Head and Neck Association, UK Professor Hisham Mehanna, Chairman of the Association of Oncologists, Professor Marshall Posner at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, Professor Jochen Lorch at Harvard University, Professor Robert I. Haddad, Professor Annie Waifong Chan, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's Professor Nancy Lee, Professor Everett Vokes, Professor Nishant Agrawal, Professor Athanasios Argiris from Thomas Jefferson University, and Professor Melvin Lee Kiang Chua from the National Cancer Centre Singapore, Professor Edwin P Hui from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor KC Allen Chan, and Professor Ying Sun from SYSUCC.
Immune and targeted therapy was the focus of the conference. The key investigators of the Keynote048 trial, Professor Babara Burtness, Professor Robert I. Haddad, Professor Jochen Lorch, and Professor Athanasios Argiris all discussed related issues. Professor Everett Vokes, Professor Nancy Lee, and Professor Marshall Posner focused on the progress of HPV-related head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. The diagnosis and treatment of nasopharyngeal cancer was also one of the main issues discussed at the conference. Professor Annie Waifong, Professor Edwin P Hui, Professor KC Allen Chan, and Professor Sun Ying of SYSUCC all shared their research experiences.
Over the one and a half days, the meeting was a platform for exchange and cooperation between domestic and foreign experts. The content of the speeches caused extensive and wonderful discussions; breaking boundaries in thought. After the meeting, the participating experts spoke highly of the International Head and Neck Cancer Symposium and were looking forward to the next one.
