May 9th, 2014, Prof. Stephen Mulligan, a famous hematologist from the University of Sydney and Royal North Shore Hospital visited the Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC).
For his first visit to our cancer center and the Medical Oncology Department, Prof. Huiqiang hosted a formal conference in which Prof. Mulligan addressed the latest development of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia(CLL) and Mantle Cell Lymphoma(MCL) research, and Prof. Qingqing Cai’s introduced the Lymphoma Division of the Medical Oncology Department. They mainly focused on recent achievements in teaching, research and training. Meanwhile, they discussed some popular topics about CLL and MCL. Prof. Wenqi Jiang and Prof. Zhiming Li from the Medical Oncology Department, Prof. Zhongjun Xia from the Hematology Department, Prof. Su Li from GCP Center and specialists from the brother hospital in Guangzhou also participated to the conference.
Prof. Stephen Mulligan works at the University of Sydney and Royal North Shore Hospital, Australia, and is famous for his specialty as an hematologist,. He is the director of the Ruffle Pathology and Hematology Program of the Institute of Molecular Biology Science, the School of University of Sydney, and the founder and president of the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Australian Research Consortium (CLLARC). Besides, he is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) as well as one of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australia (FRCPA). Professor Mulligan’s research interests include the mechanism of action of purine nucleoside analogues, the ATM/p53 pathway and molecular mechanisms of resistance, signaling pathway inhibitors in CLL, the incidence and nature of small B-cell clones, and all aspects of clinical and experimental CLL.
After the conference, Prof. Mulligan visited the Medical Oncology Department, the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Wards, the Daytime Chemotherapy Wards and Radiotherapy Wards. During the visit, Prof. Mulligan highly valued our achievements in lymphoma research and clinical practice. More importantly, the visit was a good opportunity to explore further collaboration and promote communication between both entities.
