SYSUCC Partnership Development: Signing a MoU with the University of Warwick, UK

On May 27th, 2014, the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center took its first move to establish a long-term partnership with the University of Warwick, UK, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Based on mutual respect and benefits, SYSUCC and the University of Warwick will explore through this MoU a range of opportunities in Systems Biology, Nursing, Administrative Staff Training and Digital Pathology. Both sides plan to discuss the details of this agreement later on this year.

The objective of the Medical School of Warwick is to become a worldwide acknowledged top research center, generating groundbreaking applicable research achievements in biomedicine and influence the national policy for medical services. Warwick is investing a large amount of resources in establishing research centers and world-class research platforms, training qualified talents and creating vigorous research atmosphere. In particular, Warwick has made great achievements in digital medical technology, by establishing an advanced network of medical services, a 450 manufacturer’s digital medical technology research team, advanced digital healthcare reports and 3D printing technology.

The signing ceremony was held in the East Campus of the Sun Yat-sen University with the President and Vice President of SYSUCC, respectively Xu Rui-hua and Qian Chao-nan and the Vice Chancellor of Warwick, Lawrence Young. The Business Secretary of UK, Vince Cable, the Principal of SYSU, Xu Ning-sheng, and the Vice Principal, Zhu Xi-ping witnessed the signing of the MoU. Mr. Cable reminded through his speech that education was major for the future of China and UK. UK is currently exploring further education collaboration opportunities with China for the next 20 years, in terms of academic research, university branches establishments and education plans for undergraduates and post-graduates. Students on both sides will have more chances to communicate and exchange ideas.

With this MoU, SYSUCC and Warwick are establishing high-level medical staff joint-training to stimulate the advancements of digital medical technology. With the improvement of its medical serving capability, SYSUCC would be able to provide more effective and higher quality services to its patients.
