Executive Publisher of Elsevier visited SYSUCC

Executive Publisher of Elsevier Ms.Sarah Jenkins visited Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center and gave a Lecture

On August 6, 2014, Ms. Sarah Jenkins, Executive Publisher within Elsevier’s Health & Medical Sciences Division, and Mr. Boris Liu, Manager of Elsevier’s Branch in Beijing, visited Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC). During their visit, Ms. Jenkins gave a lecture titled “The Key to Successful Scholarly Publication”.

 In the morning, Prof. Xu Ruihua, President of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, hosted a meeting with our guests and expressed a warm welcome on behalf of the Cancer Center. A fruitful communication was carried out between Ms. Jenkins and Prof. Xu about issues of mutual interest, including possibility for collaboration between Elsevier and the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO). Ms. Jenkins was quite impressed by the achievements of the Chinese oncologists and expressed a strong will for further collaboration.

 After the meeting with Prof. Xu, Ms. Jenkins joined a communication meeting in which several experts from SYSUCC participated, including Prof. Qian Chaonan, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Prof. Zhang Li from the Department of Medical Oncology, Prof. Yun Jingping from the Department of Pathology, Prof. Liu Qiang and Prof. Zhu Xiaofeng from the Department of Experimental Research, and Prof. Zhang Zhenfeng from the Department of Medical Imaging and Interventional Radiology. First, Prof. Qian gave a brief introduction of our Cancer Center. Ms. Jenkins was quite impressed by his talk and highly valued our achievements in cancer research and clinical practice. Later, she had a friendly discussion with all the experts, exchanging ideas concerning their choices of journals for publication, their interest in joining the editorial boards of Elsevier journals, etc.

To help our staff and students to learn more about the keys to a successful publication, we invited Ms. Jenkins to give a lecture at the end of her visit. With long-term experience in the field of medical publishing, Ms. Jenkins introduced to us many important factors affecting the publication of a scientific paper, and also gave several useful suggestions. The audience was really interested by her talk, and raised many questions.

 Ms. Jenkins joined Elsevier in 2002. Since then, she has gained more than ten years experience in medical publishing, working with Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Boards, and she taught Societies across the world how to launch and develop journals. As an Executive Publisher within Elsevier’s Health & Medical Sciences Division, Sarah manages a portfolio of primary research and review journals in the field of oncology, including the European Journal of Cancer, Radiotherapy & Oncology and Gynecologic Oncology. In her role, Sarah also works with a number of cancer societies, such as the European Cancer Organization, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer.
