2014 SYSUCC Young Scholars International Award-Winning

As many outstanding young scientists work within the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, some of them have been rewarded with international awards in different fields in 2014.

Xu Miao is a young researcher working in the department of Experimental Research. This successful young lady was awarded twice in 2014;

The first award was granted to her in March, by the Wellcome Trust Funding of the Oxford University, United Kingdom, to attend the 50th Anniversary of the Epstein Barr Virus Conference.

She was then invited as a selected speaker in Brisbane, Australia, to participate to the 16th International Symposium on EBV and Associated Diseases.

Zhou Zhongguo is an accomplished young doctor from the Hepatobiliary Department of the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center. To thank him for his numerous achievements as a young and promising scientist, Zhou Zhongguo was granted a Travel Award by the MD Anderson Cancer Center for the Annual Global Academic Program Conference for MD Anderson’s Sister Institutions in May, in Seoul, Korea.

Doctor Tang Lin Quan has been a promising young doctor working in the Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Department within SYSUCC for a few years now. To thank him for his efforts, he was granted a Travel Award by the MD Anderson Cancer Center for the Annual Global Academic Program Conference for MD Anderson’s Sister Institutions in May, in Seoul, Korea.

A few weeks later, in June, Tang Lin Quan received the Outstanding Graduate Paper Award at the Fifth Sino-American Symposium on Clinical and Translational Medicine. 

Doctor Shi Yanxia is a talented young scientist, working as an Associate Professor in the Medical Oncology Department at the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center. Her research achievements have been published in several high-impact biomedical journals, including one manuscript that is under revision in Nature. Cell Biology. In September 2014, she was rewarded with the US Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and the National Foundation for Cancer Research 2014 USCACA-NFCR Scholar Awards, along with 4 other young Chinese Investigators.

Feng Guo Kai, promising researcher from the Experimental Research Department at SYSUCC, was granted the Travel Grant Award for the 73rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Cancer Association, in Japan, in September 2014.

And finally, we are honored to announce that the doctor Chen Gong from the Colorectal Division of SYSUCC has been chosen by ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) to be part of the Academic Committee of Colorectal Experts during the upcoming 2015 ASCO Meeting.
