On March 6-7, 2015, nearly 50 doctors and nurses from both Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center’s (SYSUCC) Departments of Gynecology and Breast Oncology went to Lianshan County, Qingyuan, to provide to the local women free consultation and cancer screening.
SYSUCC’s experts answering local’s concerns
During the opening ceremony, Peng Wangqing, Deputy Secretary of SYSUCC’s Party Committee, pointed out that breast and cervical cancers are two common malignant tumors in women with an increasing incidence tendency among the young ones in recent years. Consequently, it is important to provide early diagnosis as well as treatment to reduce the incidence, improve prognosis and increase the quality of life.
Specialists, including Prof. Liu Jihong, chief expert in gynecology, participated to the event and were warmly welcomed by local residents. Through the whole event, 180 women received free medical consultations and 900 received free breast and cervical cancers screening.
Lecture on cancer prevention
Meanwhile, SYSUCC’s experts also gave lectures on cancer prevention, organized one-on-one communication and exchanged experiences in treatment, nursing and management, with the doctors and nurses from the People’s Hospital of Lianshan County.
In answer the Cancer Foundation of China’s call, SYSUCC provided free consultation and screening to more than 10,000 women over the past 9 years.
