On the morning of April 26, 2016, the SYSU Distinguished Doctors Seminar and the Award Ceremony of the 2nd SYSU Distinguished Doctors Selection was held on the Guangzhou South Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, Prof. Yu Minbin, Vice President of SYSU, representatives of winners of the 1st SYSU Distinguished Doctors Selection, and winners of the 2nd SYSU Distinguished Doctors Selection attended the seminar and the award ceremony.

SYSU Distinguished Doctors Seminar

The 2nd SYSU Distinguished Doctors Selection recognized 30 winners. Prof. Xu Ruihua, Prof. Ma Jun, Prof. Jiang Wenqi, Prof. Zhang LI and Prof. Zhang Bei from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center won the rewards. President Luo Jun presented certificates of honor to the winners and sent them all his warm congratulations. On behalf of the University, President Luo Jun thanked the distinguished doctors for their contributions to the University and the society. He expressed hope that the distinguished doctors will become confident and responsible clinical leading figures who excel in both professional ethics and skills, and strive to lead their teams in improving clinical specialties and core competitiveness, thus expanding the influence of SYSU’s affiliated hospitals in the medical and health care industries.

In 2013, the “SYSU Distinguished Doctors” project was officially initiated with the purpose of nurturing a batch of leading figures, who have long-term clinical practice, rich experience, excellent skills, sound virtues, great impact, and high recognition in their fields. Prof. Guan Zhongzhen, Prof. Wan Desen, Prof. Rong Tiehua were selected as the SYSU Senior Distinguished Doctors. At the same time, Prof. Liu Mengzhong, Prof. Wu Peihong, Prof. Chen Minshan and Prof. Fu Jianhua were rewarded as the SYSU Distinguished Doctors. The University formulated “The Selection Methods of SYSU Distinguished Doctors” to give comprehensive evaluation from aspects including professional virtues and ethics, clinical abilities, academic achievements, and talent cultivation. The selection activity is held once every two years. In May 2014, the 1st selection activity resulted in 13 SYSU Senior Distinguished Doctors and 43 SYSU Distinguished Doctors; and in March 2016, the 2nd selection activity resulted in 30 SYSU Distinguished Doctors.
