Profile

Su Yong, is a Doctor of Medicine and serves as a chief physician and advisor of a master's degree student. He specializes in radiation therapy and combination therapy of nasopharynx carcinoma and other head and neck cancers. Dr. Su Yong has been engaged in clinical work, teaching and research on cancers since he graduated with a doctorate degree in 1988. Since then, he has published dozens of research papers, many of which are included in SCI magazines including Head Neck and participated in the compilation of two books on nasopharynx carcinoma.

In 2004, he was the first one to find that PET-CT performs worse than MRL in the detection of regional invasion of nasopharynx carcinoma and retropharyngeal lymph node metastasis because the former failed to detect lesions with a diameter shorter than 0.5 to 1.0 cm and necrotic retropharyngeal lymph node metastasis. This discovery provides a basis for the proper application of PET-CT in the clinic therapy of nasopharynx carcinoma.

In 2005, he took the lead in putting forward the method for the definition and delineation of the target volume for IMRT of nasopharynx carcinoma in which the tumor only affects one side of the nose in his doctoral dissertation. In the same year, he also invented the CT-guided needle biopsy through mandibular area for the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma in the parapharyngeal space.

In 2006, he carried out research to improve the method for the positioning and delineation of the target volume for IMRT of nasopharynx carcinoma and head and neck cancer following induction chemotherapy. He was then awarded the winning prize in the 2nd Guangdong Forum on Radiation Therapy of Tumor Competition.

In 2008, he found a contradiction in relation to the regional invasion of hypopharyngeal carcinoma and the principle of retropharyngeal lymph node metastasis in the authoritative textbook of the discipline. He took charge of and proposed some suggestions for the principles of determination and delineation of the target volume of hypopharyngeal carcinoma.

In 2011, he finished a preliminary regulation for delineation of target volume for IMRT of head and neck cancer for the Department.

In 2012, he found that the volume of primary tumors of nasopharynx carcinoma is closely related to distant metastasis and prognosis and put forward the nasopharynx carcinoma prognosis and stage models that take the volume of primary tumor into consideration.
